Still no Abductions

Still I can't get my Sims abducted by Aliens. I don't get it. I got
small telescopes, big telescopes, male sims, female sims, stargazing
constantly, stargazing at 30 minute bursts all through the night.
Nothing. Zip.

Different kind of sims, different aspirations, different levels of
knowledge, even maxxed out someones interest level so they could go UFO
Watching or something.

I even tried the cheat, and that still doesn't work.

Maybe I should face it.

Pleasantview is crippled (for me)

Maybe I should do a Simpsons and move Pleasantview to somewhere else?

Any thoughts?

It's still a probability thing and sometimes the sadorandom logic doesn't
bring up the numbers for your sims. The best way to test is to have a
knowledge Sim and max up their aspiration point options so that they can
summon aliens - even then it could occur in the first five seconds or not
for days on end.

The game is weird like that. I am surprised the cheat didn't work, but
have you tried the hacked telescope? Not that I can remember where I got
it. I only used it once when I needed to move a story on, because I don't
have much trouble getting sims abducted.

Same with the burglar - Jeanie says she never sees them, me, I get just
about every house burgled.

Pleasantview isn't crippled, it's just that it's difficult to get someone
abducted the *natural* way, especially if you're trying it seems. However,
making them stargaze in 30 minute blocks will keep the chance of them being
abducted at its lowest. The chance goes up with every cumulative hour they
spend using the most expensive telescope. Female sims will get abducted but
not pregnant BTW.

The best strategy is to

make sure your sims needs are high, except for fun
send them to the telescope as soon as it gets dark
make them spend the entire night there without a break

But even then the chances of abduction are still small - 5% by 6am, I think
is the number I've heard. It starts ridiculously low (considerably less
than 1%) and abductions in the first hour or two are as rare as hen's teeth.
If they have a break and restart, the chances of abduction are reset to the
level they are at the outset which is why your 30 minute blocks aren't
working. As for the cheat, I seem to remember I had trouble with it once.
Keep trying with it - sometimes it takes and sometimes it doesn't. But as
Mim says, the easiest thing it to just summon the buggers.

BTW don't move Pleasantview on masse somewhere else - quickest way to make
the whole neighbourhood completely unplayable.

Best wishes

I usually stick to the hours of about 10 pm until 3 or 4, and if it's going
to happen it is usually well before that time.

But then, as I said, I don't have a lot of trouble, I've had quite a few
aliens born into the game, though it can take several nights before it
happens. There again I don't often try and really care. Twice I did.
Once I didn't want to wait, and used the hacked 'scope, the other was a sim
who wanted to marry of 3 kids os something, and I decided he could help his
wife out by having one of them. He got abducted after she got pregnant for
the second time, having tried for a while by this time. Of course, she had
twins and I had given up worryiong about it.

There is a lot of speculation about times for abduction but it is known that
it is possible to get abducted at 5am and later. People have pictures.
Also, I would suggest starting as early as possible in order to increase the
percentage chance of abduction as far as possible further into the night.
That is, if you are really determined to do it the game way. Most people
don't bother. There is more uncertainty about how early in the night sims
can be abducted, though 10pm is known, but this strategy is not about when,
it's about how long they stargaze. There was a thread about it at MATY
where someone checked the actual calculations in the game code (which is
where I got the 5% figure from) and there was a good experiment done early
on by someone at the main site/BBS of all places - one of the SimMasters.
That was in the days when the place wasn't insufferably childish right
across the board though.

Isn't that always the way? I think EAxis redefined Sod's Law.

The cheat won't work. It got turned off with FT and Simon says (ha ha, not
intentional, the OP's name is Simon) that he has FT so - debug abduction is
not possible for him. I remember posting about this way back when FT first
came out and then someone else, I think DeAnn, also posted about the broken
FT debug abduction.

Anyway, I don't have the hack but being an awesome one I would assume that
it works - there is a hack that has been newly released since FT called
debug abduction fix. In case the OP doesn't know what an "awesome" hack is,
it's one from a site called More Awesome Than You and you can find the hack
here: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/ffs/ Choose your newest EP (FT or
AL, I suppose) in terms of release order, then go into hacks and grab
debugabductfix.zip.

I played for 18 months before I got my first abduction. The latest
game had 2 abductions in the first week. Go figure. I wouldnt use
hacks for this as that turns something unusual into the ordinary.
